iRoad – the intelligent & green transportation highway of the future

March 22, 2010

iRoad - intelligent green growth sustainable transportation highway of the futureWhat the iPhone did for phones…but this time for roads….

A recent report from the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (think tank of various technology firms) reveals plans for the next generation highway infrastructure.

Given, we cannot always assume building more highways is the way to go (vertical growth in TOD’s vs. horizontal growth in sprawling), but if we do assume building highways is the best way — nothing beats the iRoad.

This will be an intelligent transportation system that will track real-time traffic information, providing information to cars on the road, public transit systems, and broadcast systems.  This new road will ping your car, and your car will ping back, creating the highest quality adaptive, real-time collection of information. And what do we do with that information? Reduce congestion, optimize tolling, and save the environment.

So imagine what this iRoad can do for you: spend less time with road rage in traffic, get the most bang for your buck on any tolls you may pay, allow your offspring to enjoy this planet for at least another generation of life, and most importantly — you’ll have an uber cool transportation system ;).
