Revitalizing Transportation in America – Obama’s Vision for High-Speed Rail

January 28, 2010

Obama's vision for high speed rail - Green Growth Sustainable TransportationFinally – a huge push by the Obama administration to revitalize green growth and sustainable transportation in America.

Barack Obama, even while on his campaign trail, has been promising us a plan for a greener America with better infrastructure and sustainable modes of transportation. Finally, this has come to us in the form of an $8 Billion package from the Reinvestment and Recovery Act.

This new vision for high-speed rail will consist of 10 regional corridors linking major cities and connecting through long-distance passenger routes. And this is exactly what America needs to finally catch up to the systems already set-up in Europe and Asia. We will be attempting to build a system that will pull isolated regions into “ignited growth” and “thriving tourist destination” just as rail has done for France, Spain, China, and Japan – said Obama.

So America, let’s prepare us for this new era of green growth — more jobs, efficient infrastructure, sustainable cities and awesome high-speed rail. What’s next? More light rail perhaps?

Now if they would only spend some money finding ways to prevent the repeated mudslides that keep blocking the tracks north of Seattle…

That sounds like something the ARRA should cover under “Avoiding Roadway Epic Fails” :).

But seriously, that sounds like something that should be addressed because it helps the infrastructure and roadways of America, as well as creates jobs for those who do the work.

Thanks Brendan for the suggestion! 😉
